The focus was on reproductive rights and the question of how self-determination, medical care, and social conditions must be structured so that people can make their decisions freely and with full information. From a human rights perspective, the following are central: access to health care, respect for bodily autonomy, and equal treatment are closely linked to human dignity. Issues surrounding reproductive health are therefore not merely political or medical matters, but also questions of individual rights and social participation.
Specifically regarding abortion, the VMR, like international bodies, assesses the current situation for those affected in Liechtenstein as non-compliant with human rights standards. A time-limit solution, as proposed in the initiative, upholds fundamental human rights and represents a significant improvement over the current situation.
The discussion provided a space for different perspectives, historical context, and a shared exchange on what a responsible approach to these issues might look like.
