Human rights and the 2030 Agenda
Sustainable development and human rights are inextricably linked. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by the United Nations on September 15, 2015. It comprises 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which combine social, environmental and economic dimensions. The agenda is committed to full respect for international law and emphasizes the promotion of human rights, particularly in the goals on poverty reduction, gender equality, education, health and the reduction of inequalities.
"We emphasize the responsibility of all States, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, to respect, protect and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, disability or other status." (Para. 19 of the 2030 Agenda)
Liechtenstein has also committed to implementing the SDGs nationally by 2030 and contributing to their implementation globally. The private SDG Alliance is committed to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in Liechtenstein through awareness-raising, networking, lobbying and projects. As a partner, the VMR supports the valuable efforts of the SDG Alliance.
