Human rights
Human rights as the foundation of democracy
Human rights form the foundation of a just and democratic society. They guarantee us dignity, freedom and the opportunity to lead a self-determined life. Human rights protect us from arbitrariness, discrimination and injustice. Enforcing the same rights consistently and for everyone is a challenge - also in Liechtenstein.
Discrimination affects the vulnerable
People with disabilities, refugees and migrants, people living in poverty or those on the margins of society are particularly vulnerable to violations of their rights. As minorities, they struggle with discrimination, disadvantage and limited opportunities. Their living environment differs from the reality of life in mainstream society. Discrimination doesn't exist here? Only those who are not affected can say that.
Children and young people need strong support
Children and young people need special attention. Protecting their rights and well-being is crucial for their healthy development and the development of their potential. Violence in the family, arguments during separation and divorce, but also neglect or sexual assault are traumatic - especially when they happen within the family. Children and young people need strong rights and committed support in order to be able to assert themselves in such situations.
Together against violence and for equality
Violence - physical, psychological, sexual or economic - is a major dark horse, especially in the private sphere. Women and children, older people and people with disabilities suffer disproportionately often from domestic violence. Homophobia, i.e. violence based on sexual orientation or gender identity, affects all genders. Effective legal and practical protection mechanisms are needed for vulnerable women, men and LGBTIQA+. Equality between women and men remains a key challenge - despite the legal basis. More profound social changes are needed for equal opportunities.
Access to information means access to justice
Barrier-free access to information is essential to ensure that everyone is aware of their rights and support options. It is not without reason that the right to information is seen as the basis for freedom and the foundation of democracy and human development. In order to be able to claim your own rights, you need to know them. And work towards ensuring that human rights, justice, equality and inclusion are actively practiced.
