Human Rights Day: "Freedom, facts, fakes."
Invitation to the event on Human Rights Day 2025:
"Freedom, facts, fakes." Freedom of expression and the right to information under pressure
Freedom of expression and access to information are fundamental elements of a democracy. However, exercising freedom of expression and the right to information is also associated with duties and responsibilities. Worldwide, these rights are coming under increasing pressure.
On Human Rights Day, we would therefore like to discuss what these rights mean in today's society, what their limits are and how they can be strengthened.
Raphaela Cueni will be joining us. She is an assistant professor at the University of St. Gallen with a research focus on basic communication rights and President of the Institution suisse des droits humains / Swiss Human Rights Institution.
After an introductory presentation, she will take part in a panel discussion with Patrik Schädler, Doris Quaderer, Patricia Schiess and the audience, moderated by Andreas Krättli. Mathias Ospelt will provide the cultural backdrop to the evening. At the aperitif afterwards, there will be another opportunity to exchange opinions and obtain information.
