Criminal prosecution of homosexuals

Homosexual persons could be prosecuted in Liechtenstein on the basis of their sexual orientation. Until 2001, the 1987 Criminal Code still contained four special provisions that made homosexual activity punishable by penalties, some of which were severe.
Back in May 2024, the VMR sent a monitoring letter to the government regarding the criminal prosecution of homosexuals in Liechtenstein and the possible rehabilitation of those affected. The response at the time was that it was unclear whether any such cases had ever occurred.
In the meantime, the Liechtenstein Institute has conducted an in-depth review of historical legal cases. Lukas Ospelt has carried out extensive research on this topic.

If there were legal cases involving criminal prosecution, the constitutional state must rehabilitate those affected accordingly.
