Working Together for a Child-Friendly Justice System
The study was published in June by the Ombudsman’s Office for Children and Adolescents at the VMR and UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The study focused on the question of how relevant and feasible the recommendations from the six areas of action are:
- independent legal representation for children
- age-appropriate information and support during proceedings
- standardized, child-friendly hearing practices
- formalized cooperation among the agencies involved
- structural prerequisites, such as strengthening the ombudsman’s office
- Mandatory continuing education for professionals
We thank all participants for their interest and the lively discussion! We are very pleased that on October 6, 2026, the government established a working group to examine the implementation of the study’s findings, with a particular focus on independent legal representation for children.
The working group will report to the government and submit proposals for next steps. This is an important first step toward a child-centered justice system in Liechtenstein.
