Last week, the Disability Expert Committee officially began its work in Liechtenstein.

The committee was appointed by the VMR in November and supports it in its statutory task of reviewing the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This responsibility was assigned to the VMR after Liechtenstein acceded to the convention in January 2024.

The five-member expert committee is chaired by Lisa von Reden from the Liechtenstein Human Rights Association. The Liechtenstein Disability Association, which represents the interests of people with disabilities, is represented on the committee by Jill Vogt. The committee is complemented by the following three experts with many years of experience:

  • Nuria Frei – expert on disability law at Inclusion Handicap
  • Daniel Suda Lang – expert on international cooperation in the field of disability from Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion
  • Sibylla Strolz – expert in social work with a focus on disability from OST – University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland

From 2026, the committee will meet three times a year. Once a year, there will also be an exchange with people with disabilities as part of an event. The first tasks include defining the thematic priorities and planning the public event in September 2026. The VMR welcomes the committee's broad range of expertise and competence and looks forward to constructive cooperation.
